We have been monitoring the contra weekends that have taken place recently, and it appears that all of them have either experienced a significant (25% or more) decline in registration, or have resulted in a significant percentage of Covid 19 breakthrough infections — and sometimes both. There is also worrying speculation about a rapidly spiking new variant, which is expected to peak as school starts, over Labor Day weekend. We have therefore decided that it is necessary to cancel the 2022 FootFall Dance Weekend. If you are an International dancer, World Music and Dance will take place at Camp Louise, and we hope you will consider signing up.

If you haven’t been vaccinated, get the shot! If you have, mask up, be careful and stay safe.

Planning is well underway for FootFall 2021, scheduled for Labor Day weekend — September 4, 5 and 6. Saturday through Monday.

Again this year we will share beautiful Camp Louise, near Thurmont, Maryland, with World Village Music and Dance Camp. Both groups will be requiring proof of COVID vaccination – a picture or PDF your vaccination card. Camp Louise re-opened in June and they report that things are going well. If there are new protocols related to COVID-19, we will let you know.

You can register online or register by mail now.

Our trio of bands this year cover a wide range of sound. Hot Coffee Breakdown (Tom Cunningham, Luis de León, and Kate Sanders) are a snazzy, jazzy trio with wonderful percussion (and Luis has offered to lead a drum circle!). Our “local” band this year is Are We There Yet (Susan Brandt, Tom Wright, Marc Glickman, and Tina Chancey), a quartet with boundless energy coupled with inventive improvisations. Box & String (Bill Quern and Sarah Gowan) are an amazing duo who play guitar, mandolin, concertina, melodeon, 4- and 5-string banjo, fiddle, harmonica, and jaw harp. And foot percussion — I’m hoping to find a place for Clogging 101, which they do brilliantly. There is a VERY tentative schedule on the Schedule page. It will be updated.

Callers for contra (we will have a full track of contra) are Luke Donforth and Gaye Fifer. Callers for English (and we will have a full track of ECD) are Melissa Running and Gaye. Balfolk will be taught by Lynn Baumeister.
